Select Team Programs

Minor/Major Select
These are in-house select leagues for league age 10's - 11's and 12's - 13's. The league age restrictions are strictly enforced. These teams play at a higher competitive level than our recreational teams, but are less competitive than our travel teams in the corresponding age groups. The teams wear upgraded Major League© replica uniforms. Players are drafted onto a team by the parent coaches. A player wishing to be selected must attend tryouts. There are no guarantees about being with friends or a particular coach. Games are played on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. Most games are played at Cabin John Regional Park. These select players may not continue to play on their former recreational teams. Minor Select games are played on a 60’ base path and the pitching distance is 46
'.  Major Select games are played on 70' base paths with a 50' pitching distance and permit leading off and stealing. Pitchers will learn to pitch from the stretch and hold runners on base. If a player is drafted he/she must commit to play for that team and may not return to a recreational team.
PLAYERS MAY NOT PLAY ON A REC TEAM AND A MINOR/MAJOR SELECT TEAM

The differences between Minor/Major Select and Select Travel teams are as follows:
(1) Travel teams play at a higher competitive level. (There are only one or two Travel teams per age group versus eight in Major Select.)
(2) Travel teams play on weeknights and weekends and travel throughout the county to play.
(3) Minor/Major Select plays on Friday and Sunday only and within BCC's geographic borders.
(4) Travel teams hire professional coaches while Minor/Major Select teams are coached by experienced parent coaches.
(5) The cost to play on a travel teams is approximately $500 per season, the current cost for Minor/Major Select is $175 per season.                                                                                   (6) Both Travel and Minor/Major Select players are required to participate in indoor clinics over the winter months at additional cost.

Travel Programs-Age 9, 10, 11, 12
1. Tryouts will be held in October for winter workouts and spring team. Players may be added for summer and fall teams as needed.
2. A professional coach will be hired to handle this team in the spring and fall with support from the BCC Parent Manager. Summer professional coaching is optional depending on availability and expense.
3. Focus will be on maximum effort and performance under the pressure of tournament baseball. Recognizing that skill development is and will continue to be important, in the spring this age group will also focus on strategies for winning ballgames such as primary position play, formal pitching rotations, etc. As always, pitching will be emphasized. The Coach will also be encouraged to call on roving instructors such as Andrew Wright for pitching and Keith Gordon for hitting (BCC Baseball professionals). For the spring season, equal playing time is not necessarily assured, but each player who makes a serious commitment will receive substantial playing time. The fall team will bat through the lineup if permitted and playing time will be equalized as much as possible. The roster should not exceed 12 players unless playing time for all players is assured.
4. Schedule: Goal will be to play 25-30 games each season with tournament play in the summer. Practices are normally held once per week.
5. Cost: Approximately $700 per season
